History (and family trees) caught my interest since I was little. Events and people of yesteryear and how they affect the present never ceases to amaze me.
This TV series from the US has not reached local cable yet. And to my surprise, the suking dibidi outlet in Divisoria (piracy rocks!) has it!

As the title would have it, it is about the Tudor dynasty of England which focuses on the reign of Henry VIII. And as Hollywood would have it, they made several points in the series "fictionalized". That's my term for historical inaccuracy. For instance, they made it look like Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon's having a May-December love affair when in fact she is only 6 years older than him. I would not point out everything for brevity's sake.

Season 1 is made up of 10 1-hour episodes, it has a mini-series vibe into it. The locations were amazing, although the CGI composites are very noticable. Language used is a mix of traditional English and American slang (mainly profanity), although I find it odd that the main characters have different English accents. They made their selling point in casting very good looking actors. I never realized that the pudgy (ok... fat) Henry VIII would be incarnated by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. (I have a new celeb-crush in Henry Cavill who plays Charles Brandon and the actor who plays King Francis of France! *kilig*)

My final word on this - 13th century England is not that different from today. They only have more layers of clothing and no electricity! Same issues are present; war (kings are such little boys), sex (name it, the show has it), drugs, infidelity, and dysfunctional families.

Oh, before I forget just a few reminders: it is R-18ish and turn the volume up.
